Prostate cancer sounds serious and it is a proven fact that less population of people are actually aware of this disease, its symptoms and panacea.
What is prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer is an ailment wherein cancer spreads in the prostate. Prostate is a gland that is present in the reproductive system of a human male. Cancer tends to spread when prostate cells changes and starts multiplying at a rate that becomes difficult to control.
These cells usually metastasize or tend to spread from the prostate and travel to other body parts, mainly emphasizing on the bones and lymph nodes. The cancer or prostate is also responsible for causing extreme pain and difficulty when urinating. The common erectile dysfunction is also another symptom of this type of a cancer.
Prostate cancer rates:
It is difficult to approximate the rate at which the prostate cancer is spreading across the world as it tends to vary widely in different parts of the world. In South and East the East and South Asian Countries, this type of a cancer is not common. However, the rates are high in Europe and in the United States of America. A study conducted by the American cancer society proves that prostate cancer is not common among Asia men in Asia and most common African and European men.
How it develops?
Men who are over fifty years of age are said to develop prostate cancer more than those who are of below fifty years of age. This type of a cancer can only be found in men as the prostate is male reproductive tract. This cancer is famous as the second most common type of cancer in men in the United States. In this country male deaths occur more due to prostate cancer than any other cancer, other than lung cancer.
Shocking but it is true that early prostate cancer usually causes no symptoms. This type of a cancer is diagnosed during the work up for an elevated PSA that would be observed during a routine check up.
There are certain symptoms of this type of a cancer that can occur sometimes. These are:
Frequent Urination
Increased urination at night
Difficulty in starting of urine
Difficulty in maintaining a steady stream of urine.
Blood in the urine
Painful urination
Difficulty in achieving erection
Painful ejaculation
Treatment:
Prostate cancer can be treated with the help of a surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy and occasional chemotherapy.
