What is enlarged prostate?
A human male's prostate gland or the reproductive gland starts gaining size once he attains the age of 40. It may also occur during the middle age. This is a common condition that is known as enlarged prostate or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
Treatment:
When it comes to Enlarged Prostate, it depends on the stage of the condition in conjunction with the age of the enlarged prostate.
As soon as the diagnosis of prostate enlargement is made, it may not be actually possible for your doctor to offer you the accurate treatment, on the spot; in case the symptoms appear to be mild. Hence, it may be necessary to go for one or more exams to be conducted per year in order to be sure that you are not developing any sort of complications from this disorder.

Medication:
There are basically two types of medication available to treat an enlarged prostate. They are:
Alpha blockers
Finasteride Proscar
Propeica
Alpha blockers are extremely effective in about 75 percent of men. These work effectively by relaxing the muscles at the neck of the bladder and facilitate urination. As per the recommendation made by FDA, doxazosin Cardura, famsulosin flomax and terazosin Hytrin have been the approved medication for prostate enlargement.
The medication is said to offer results within one or two days. As far as the side effects of this medication is considered, one may experience, dizziness, tiredness and a low blood pressure when standing up. In some rare cases, impotence has also said to be the result of side effect.
Surgical treatments for enlarged prostate
This type of a treatment is less common these days due to many herbal and medicinal alternatives that are available for patients. Surgery is often the most effective alternative when it comes to difficult-to-manage and complicated conditions. There are several types of surgical treatments available including transurethral resection of the prostate, transurethral incision of the prostate or open prostatectomy. There are also certain side effects one can suffer from infection, never or structural damage. These include reduced bladder control, difficulty in ejaculation and impotence.
These days one can also go for herbal alternatives as effective treatment for enlarged prostate.
